The annual "Assault on Mount Mitchell", presented by the Freewheelers of Spartanburg Bike Club, will be held this year on Monday, May 24th, 2010.

Bike the Assault on Mt. Mitchell, a very challenging 102-mile bike ride from Spartanburg, SC, to the top of Mt. Mitchell. You will pedal your way up 11,000 vertical feet of hills, ending on top of Mt. Mitchell at an elevation of over 6600 feet. The area's weather can be unpredictable in May with dramatic weather changes so come prepared for any kind of weather.

Music Night at Spencer-Penn Centre is a bluegrass and gospel music jam session. Located at Martinsville-Henry County, VA near milepost 177 this monthly event is one you won't want to miss. February 12th and March 12th, doors open at 5pm.

The Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway will celebrate the Spring Viewshed Planting on Saturday, March 20th on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 104.9 to plant seedlings. The planting will start at 10am. Stay for the music, refreshments and activities.

The Blue Ridge Parkway celebrates its 75th anniversary this year in 2010! Take part in the many celebrations and special events going on all year along the parkway.

Blue Ridge Parkway 75, Inc. is a study group of 30 people from Virginia and North Carolina that have extensive knowledge of the parkway. They have been established to make celebration plans that involve numerous events with dozens of nearby communities scheduled over a period of nearly a year. They will be hosting several events so make sure to mark your calendar now and plan on joining in the celebration. This is a great opportunity to draw awareness to the Blue Ridge Parkway and focus attention on a sustainable and healthy Parkway for future generations.
